Album cover for Can’t Buy A Thrill by Steely Dan

Really quite good, for a band named after a dildo.
No, really! The name came from William S. Burroughs’ novel, “Naked Lunch”, which, if you haven’t read the book or seen the movie, you really should, because it’s, umm, a little different fare than you are probably used to.
And this band – well, I have a lot of good things to say about them. They formed a decent chunk of life experiences for many people during those crazy years of the last millennium (though man, we are certainly having some crazy years in this millennium, and it’s barely even started).
These guys were a staple on late night FM radio (as mentioned elsewhere, a mode of music and information delivery that required bulky equipment and was not programmable in any way – we were slaves to what our information overlords deemed worthy, and thankfully there were some benevolent overlords watching over us, giving us kick butt music such as this).
Anyway – band named after a dildo, smooth jazz influenced rock, moving and well thought out lyrics…. Well worth the listen!
