As I was perusing my way through all these reviews, I realized that there weren’t really any Country/Western albums present.
Since I’m not a big fan of that type of music, I’m o.k. with that.
I grew up around a bunch of people who listened to that kind of music almost exclusively (“we gots both kinds, Country AND Western”), and while trying to be fair to them, it was not a conducive environment to a great deal of intellectual exploration.
So when the first refrains of this album started, I was a little put off, sounded a bit twangy and redneckish, for want of a better word.
But I can say I was wrong about that initial impression. This isn’t really country/western, much closer to rock overall. There’s also some intellectual exploration going on here.
This is well worth the listen, if for no other reason than exploring a little outside your normal tunes.
