Imagine, you’re in China for the Lunar New Year (that’s pretty much the biggest holiday for most in the Asian regions of the world). Now, you’re on the tropical island of Hainan, in the city of Sanya, and it’s 2 o’clock in the morning. Fireworks started at about 2 in the afternoon and the sound has been washing through the city non-stop since then. The air is completely filled with fireworks smoke, and the sound is a non-relenting onslaught of explosions of varying intensity.
You. Have. Had. ENOUGH.
So, you saunter out to the outdoor patio on the 8th floor of the 36 floor building you’re staying in. You slap on the headphones and browse your collection for something… not noise. CCR catches your eye.
You crank it up enough to drown out the incessant cacophony of this world, close your eyes, and sit back to let some of the tension of the day slide off your soul. You notice three things about all the tunes on this album:
The beat is simple and clean. No crashing, full spectrum noise here, just a nice, regular, even repetitive beat.
The bass line is also simple, repetitive, and predictable. The deliberate order of the rhythm soothes your jangling nerves. Same with the rhythm guitar.
Jahn Fogerty is like BB King in one way – he can’t sing and play guitar at the same time. And that’s a very, very nice counterpoint to the current environment.
This is exactly what your soul needed on this day.
3,000,000 firecrackers out of 3,000,000.
